Netter Together – The DMS Crew: Reliable, So Everything Runs Reliably. ChatGPT fragen

von
Stephan Bauch is a programmer and technical solution manager at DMS

“Don’t lose sight of yourself.”

That’s the advice Stephan would give his younger self: take care of yourself and don’t always put everyone else’s needs before your own. It’s something he also recommends to anyone starting their career. Stephan, a father of two and a key part of the programming team at DMS, tells us about his varied responsibilities, how he ended up at DMS, and how he learned to find a better balance for himself. Though, in a team where everyone looks out for one another, that’s rarely necessary — this is a place where teamwork is more than a buzzword.

Always New, Always Different.

That’s what his role in the technical team is like — everything from support tasks to building images and website spots to scripting and testing. Stephan has been adding his skills to the DMS crew since 2019. Before that, he spent quite a bit of time studying and doing “typical student jobs,” as he puts it — and becoming a dad, too. He recalls with a smile that he was already working indirectly with JTI, a DMS client: “Back then, I placed ads on cigarette vending machines — now I basically do the same, just on digital displays.” He came to DMS through a friend who worked here and after deciding: “I want to work now, not just study.” For him, what matters isn’t what you’ve learned, but what you can do.

A Decision He Never Regretted.

Or actually, two decisions — stopping his studies and starting at DMS. “The team is fantastic. Everyone helps each other, we look out for one another and we rely on each other,” he says. That mutual support is especially important to him. “We’re a real mix — all kinds of personalities who enjoy working together,” he adds.

Uncompromising Quality.

What also unites the team: a shared commitment to quality — always striving for better. There’s a strong DMS spirit: when the deadline’s done, the project’s done, and we want to deliver something great. That attitude is powered by a real hands-on mentality, which is part of everyday life at DMS.

DMS Reloaded.

Stephan isn’t just inspired by new projects, but also by the “new DMS.” The company has reinvented itself — with a new logo, a new website, a fresh corporate design, a new tone of voice, and a renewed mindset. “DMS has gotten a breath of fresh air, and we’re really living what we’ve written down,” Stephan says. It’s just more fun again. The relaunch feels like a shared guideline that everyone is excited to follow.

Personal Milestone: Work-Live Balance.

When asked about his major life moments, Stephan pauses. Becoming a father as a student was a big shift — but the real change came with transitioning from student jobs to a full-time position. The stability of a permanent role felt like a win: no risk, much fun. Still, finding a healthy work-life balance was a personal challenge. Now that he’s managed it, he calls it a “work-love balance.” “The to-dos never stop. I had to learn to prioritize — what can be done quickly, what can wait,” he says. He enjoys his work — and enjoys stepping away from it too. Not taking work home wasn’t always easy, but it’s gotten better. These days, he’s more able to switch off mentally and enjoy time with his family.

Music Is the Answer.

In everyday life, constant context switching can throw him off. “What needs doing now? Where was I just?” For him, it helps to capture tasks quickly and knock them out. And music helps too — it helps him recharge. “No lyrics — more electronic, rhythmic stuff,” says Stephan, who used to play in a band and still plays several instruments. His bike commute is another way he clears his head — physical movement does him good. And yes, gaming too: it helps him fully unplug.

Don’t Forget Yourself.

And again — music. Stephan shares more memories from his school band days and how music has always grounded him. When we ask what advice he’d give his 18-year-old self, he answers without hesitation: “Look after yourself, don’t lose sight of who you are, stop always putting others first, and most importantly — do what you actually want to do.” He’s found that balance for himself — and found the right place at DMS: a team that builds high-quality solutions together by always having each other’s back.
