Netter Together – The DMS Crew: No Challenge Too Big.

“Learn Something New Every Year – That’s My New Goal.”
That’s what Sandro, Technical Solution Manager at Digitale Mediensysteme, decided after proving his sense of rhythm during a dance class. From now on, he wants to pick up new skills every year. Honestly, we’re convinced he already does – simply through his day-to-day work at DMS.
Sandro enriches the team with deep technical know-how, true team spirit, and a warm personality that surely brings good vibes wherever he goes – even, once upon a time, in the café of a nudist beach… but more on that later.
System Down? Call Sandro.
His job title says it all: finding solutions. Sandro ensures everything runs smoothly – and when it doesn’t, he knows exactly what to do. Whether it’s troubleshooting a system failure or supporting teammates with his technical knowledge, Sandro’s got it covered.
He’s passionate about “innovative stuff,” as he puts it. Always up for developing new projects, he’s been contributing his ideas and energy to Digitale Mediensysteme since 2018.
First IT Experience? While Waiting Tables.
Originally from East Tyrol, Sandro moved to Vienna to study computer science – and worked part-time jobs on the side, mainly as a waiter. That’s actually how he got his first IT experience. “One day they asked if I could handle tech support for all the venues – I was still waiting tables once a week though,” he recalls. He had started working in restaurants during business school, which he now appreciates even more because it taught him to understand economic contexts. Waiting tables might be too stressful these days, but he says he learned a lot – especially when it comes to people skills.
“No matter how you’re feeling, when you’re serving tables, you smile and act like everything’s fine,” he says. So in a way, that job came with an unofficial acting class. And a few memorable encounters – including one with a famous Austrian author who used to sit in the café, quietly observing. Sandro still wonders how many of those moments ended up in his novels.
People Watching – A Favorite Pastime.
That quiet café observation became one of Sandro’s favorite ways to unwind. “You see everyone – businesspeople, tourists, the whole range,” he says with a smile as he recalls those days.
And about that earlier spoiler: yes, Sandro once helped out at the café in the nudist section of one of Vienna’s most iconic beach baths. That was a long time ago, though. These days, you’re more likely to find him with tablets, not trays – behind a screen, not a counter. In other words: at Digitale Mediensysteme.
It’s All Nerds Here.
After some interviews with other companies, Sandro applied to DMS in 2018. “The interview with Katharina and Daniel was great – the vibe just felt right, and I accepted immediately. I’ve never regretted it,” he says. What makes DMS special, in his view? “Everyone here is kind of a nerd in their field,” he laughs. “Everyone’s got their own thing – their own hobbies, their own strengths.”
On Two Wheels, With a Clear Mind.
For Sandro, those “things” include traveling – Valencia is a top recommendation, by the way – and, above all, cycling. We talk at length about his passion for it. (No brand mentions allowed, but he made a premium choice for his road bike.)
Why biking? “It’s how I clear my head,” he says. Hopping on the bike, heading up to Sophienalpe and down toward Tulln – that’s when new ideas come. “You get into a flow, you disconnect,” he explains. It helps more than sitting and thinking about a problem. He also loves hiking. “What’s better than standing at a summit cross and drinking a cold beer afterward? Maybe some Kaiserschmarrn too,” he adds with a grin. In winter, you’ll find him at the gym – “because Vienna winters can really get to you,” says the East Tyrolean, who often speaks fondly of home. And of his family.
Always Backed by Family.
Just like he appreciates tailwinds on the bike, Sandro is deeply grateful for the support of his family. “My parents have always had my back – school, work, private life, everything. I’ve always felt safe and supported,” he says. They never pushed or restricted him, only encouraged him. A tradition he still values: his weekly Sunday call with his mom.
A New Tradition Begins.
Last year, Sandro took a dance course – and it sparked a new tradition: learning something new every year. “Standing still isn’t for me. I always want to grow, otherwise it gets boring,” he says. Of course, that already happens with every project – each one is different, and the lessons from past work always feed into the new. We ask whether the dance course had any impact on his professional life. “Well, sort of,” he replies. “Some dance steps stick with you – you practice them a thousand times, and even if you forget the sequence, your body just knows. It’s kind of like that at work sometimes. There are routines that just kick in automatically.”
And sometimes, he adds, it’s nice to take on simple tasks like assembling a terminal. “You don’t always have to think too hard – it’s good to switch off sometimes.”
Next Project: Hawaii.
And speaking of switching off – Sandro is about to embark on a very special adventure: his honeymoon. Yes, he’s tying the knot and heading to Hawaii afterward. We couldn’t be happier for him and send our warmest congratulations. Thank you, Sandro, for this open and heartfelt conversation. We’re lucky to have you as part of the DMS crew!
