It’s Time to Get Digital. Why Austria’s Trade Must Become More Digital.

Modern Talking for Retail: Why More Ideas and Innovations Are Needed Now.
Austria's retail sector needs to go more digital — at least according to Rainer Will, Managing Director of the Austrian Trade Association. This call to action is supported by a comprehensive study conducted by the Trade Association in collaboration with Contrast EY. The findings are detailed in the presentation of the Retail Barometer Austria.
More Digital, More Power.
The conclusion: there’s still significant catching up to do in the retail sector — especially when it comes to digital strategy. Austrian retail, in particular, shows clear potential for improvement. While both consumers and retailers are generally open to innovation, omnichannel strategies have been under discussion for quite some time. One thing has become crystal clear: an online shop alone is no longer enough.
Clear Strategies and Omnichannel Solutions Are Essential.
Martin Unger, consultant at Contrast EY, poses a key question for retailers: Do traditional retailers want to learn “digital” faster than digital champions learn “retail”?
Currently, Unger sees digital champions in the lead. He warns:
“Anyone without a clear strategy and compelling omnichannel solutions will be left behind by the likes of Amazon, Zalando, and others.”
